A.J. Stecklein

A.J. Stecklein has practiced law for more than 30 years and focuses his practice on representing consumers in credit-reporting and automobile dealer disputes.

A.J. represents people whose credit reports continue to contain inaccurate information after the problem has been brought to the attention of the credit bureaus or companies supplying the information. His cases include identity-theft accounts, mixed credit files, inaccurate payment histories, accounts reported with the wrong balance or status, and debts that continue to be reported incorrectly following bankruptcy.

He also represents consumers in disputes involving automobile dealers, including failures to provide title, delayed titles, undisclosed branded or damaged vehicle histories, odometer and mileage problems, and other material misrepresentations in vehicle sales.

A.J.’s approach begins with determining exactly what went wrong and what evidence can prove it. He works with clients to organize credit reports, dispute results, account records, purchase documents, title records, communications, and evidence of the resulting harm. When the available facts support a claim, he pursues resolution through negotiation, litigation, or arbitration.

Before entering private practice, A.J. served as a prosecutor with the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office. That experience, together with more than three decades of practice, gives him a practical understanding of how to investigate disputed facts, evaluate witnesses, and present complicated cases in a clear and persuasive way.

A.J. is admitted to practice in Kansas and Missouri and in multiple federal courts. He is a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates and was selected for the Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers list from 2016 through 2021.

Clients come to A.J. after months—and sometimes years—of trying to correct a problem themselves. His job is to determine whether the evidence supports legal action, explain the available options honestly, and help the client decide on the most effective next step.
