Matthew Robertson

Matthew Robertson represents consumers in cases involving inaccurate credit reports, identity theft, and employment or tenant background-reporting errors. He handles matters from the initial investigation through negotiation, litigation, arbitration, and trial.

Matt’s practice includes cases against credit reporting agencies, companies that furnish information to the credit bureaus, debt collectors, and background-screening companies. These cases may involve accounts belonging to another person, identity-theft accounts, incorrect payment histories or account statuses, inaccurate criminal records, and other information that interferes with a consumer’s ability to obtain credit, housing, or employment.

Matt is particularly effective at taking a complicated factual record and identifying the evidence that matters. He works closely with clients to understand what was reported, why it was inaccurate, how the companies responded after receiving notice of the problem, and what consequences the inaccurate information caused.

His practice is built around preparation, direct communication, and practical problem-solving. Matt gives clients a realistic assessment of their cases and a clear understanding of what will be required from them. When a company refuses to correct a documented error or take responsibility for the resulting harm, he is prepared to pursue the matter in court or arbitration.

Matt earned his law degree from Washburn University School of Law with Dean’s Honors and his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Kansas. Before attending law school, he served in the United States Army and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

He is admitted to practice in Kansas and Missouri and in federal courts in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Indiana. He is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates.
